We all carry experiences that shape who we are. Some of those experiences leave marks—some visible, others hidden beneath the surface. Unbroken Roots was born from the understanding that trauma is universal—even if its form looks different for each of us. What is considered "normal" to some may be deeply painful to others, and the way we process those experiences determines the path we take in life.
For years, I’ve been fascinated by the ways in which people survive, adapt, and heal. In my own life, I’ve seen firsthand how trauma influences not just emotions but our sense of self, our relationships, and the choices we make. This book was my way of exploring that journey—the pain, the resilience, and ultimately, the power of healing.
Healing is key to living a happy, fulfilled life, but it isn’t always a linear path. It’s messy, filled with setbacks, revelations, and moments of both light and darkness. Through storytelling, I wanted to create a space where readers could see themselves—where they could recognize that their pain is valid, but so is their strength. Unbroken Roots isn’t just a novel; it’s a reflection of the human experience, a story about growth, self-discovery, and finding the courage to break cycles that no longer serve us.
I wrote this book for anyone who has ever felt unheard, unseen, or burdened by the weight of their past. You are not alone, and your story matters.
As you turn the pages of Unbroken Roots, my hope is that you find connection, understanding, and, most importantly, the belief that healing is possible.
With gratitude,
Denise Portillo
